Gift cards & receipts

Are you giving somebody a gift card? The Federal Trade Commission says, “Give the recipient the original receipt to verify the card’s purchase in case it is lost or stolen.”

  1. But what if you are regifting a gift card that someone else gave to you? Without a receipt? Not that I’d EVER do that… *cough*

  2. Well, if you don’t have the receipt, you’d have to give the card without the receipt. I bought a gift card at Dunkin Donuts, and I later noticed that the cashier had put the receipt in the same little envelope with the gift card. That’s when I wondered whether I was supposed to give the receipt to the recipient.
