Problem with car locks
It snowed all morning and then rained (a cold rain) all afternoon. This afternoon I got into the car and turned it on and then got out to clear snow off the car. After a few minutes I had finished and went to get back into the car, but the door was locked! I took the extra key out of my pocket and pressed the unlock button but nothing happened after several attempts. I put the key into the lock on the door and tried to unlock the car but the key would not turn. I then opened the trunk and climbed halfway in and managed to push down the seatback of the back seat, and then I could reach into the car and open a back door. Then I got out of the trunk and with the back door of the car open I was able to get the front door to open so that I could get in and turn the car off. Maybe a wire had gotten wet. I’ll try the keys tomorrow and see what happens.

Miss America
My two-cents worth on Miss America: I though it was tacky to sing about the Via Dolorosa during the talent portion of a beauty pageant. Evidence of the sad decline of Protestant civilization in the United States. No sense of what is appropriate.

Pine cat litter for icy wooden steps
Feline Fresh Pelleted Natural Pine Cat Litter 20 lbs.
My kitchen door faces north and the three wooden steps leading to the door never get any direct sunlight. Water drips from the roof when there is lots of snow and it forms into ice on the wooden steps. I don’t want to put rock salt or chemical ice melters on the wooden steps, but I have found that a cat litter made from small pieces of pine wood does help to provide some traction. Of course it does nothing to eliminate the ice.

Foppish
“So guys, there’s nothing foppish about turning up the collar on leather jackets, coats and some shirts,” says the Wall Street Journal’s Teri Agins. Well, in fact it is very foppish, unless one is trying to protect oneself from a cold wind.

The economy needs real paying jobs, not volunteeerism.
“Powell endorses Obama service initiative” is the headline of an article at cnn.com.
If we are going to have a strong economy, we need real jobs that pay people good money. Volunteerism is not the answer. If work needs to be done, let the government pay people to do it.
